PIMAJ

Pain in my ass jacket or PIMAJ is what this project affectionately became known as for about a week and a half.  I picked such a complicated piece for my 2nd project for sewing class because I wanted something where I could learn several different elements in one project.  It also required me to use several different feet on the sewing machine.

I spent the entire time imagining this project was like the dexterity bear you give children to learn how to tie or button things.

Here’s a list of everything I learned with this jacket:
Buttonholes (where the drawstring comes out of the fabric on the front)

Fusible interfacing on the shoulder tabs, sleeve tabs, front facing, and collar

Waistline casing for drawstring

Buttons
Zipper
And these were the three sewing machine feet I learned how to use doing this project:
Buttonhole

Button with Darning Plate

Zipper Foot
I used a Rayon/Polyester Blended fabric, which turned out to be just a little bit too lightweight of a fabric for this project, but it looks and feels fabulous.  A few of the edges ended up a little rough but once I get a serger that will become no problem.
So here’s the final product:

This one really was a challenge, but in the end I kinda feel like I climbed a mountain.  About halfway through I hit a wall of frustration; frustrated and hateful in that way you get in third grade when you just want to paper cut the teacher with all those multiplication tables.  However, I pushed through, and voila!  I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but dammit I’m proud of this one!
